3 Ways to Snap, Crackle, Popcorn!

Published: Jan 19, 2017 · Modified: Dec 30, 2017 by Philip + Mystique · This post may contain affiliate links

Popcorn is cheap, it's healthy and it's the perfect snack to cure any craving with its versatility to be simple or gourmet.Popped with love (and coconut oil), these 3 dressings are the perfect accompaniment to any awards ceremony.

“Have you ever pondered the miracle of popcorn? It starts out as a tiny, little, compact kernel with magic trapped inside that when agitated, bursts to create something marvelously desirable. It’s sort of like those tiny, little thoughts trapped inside an author’s head that―in an excited explosion of words―suddenly become a captivating fairytale!” - Richelle Goodrich

Happy National Popcorn Day! With the kickoff to awards season, there's nothing like a giant bowl of freshly made popcorn. Well, there is one thing that's slightly better... freshly made dressed popcorn. It's cheap, it's healthy and it's the perfect snack to cure any craving with its versatility to be simple or gourmet.

Popped with love (and coconut oil), these 3 dressings are the perfect accompaniment to any awards ceremony. In fact, these flavours may leave you feeling more interested in the horror scene at the end of the bowl rather than the actual nominees.

Maple and Smoked Cherry Salt Popcorn

Is there any other ingredient as Canadian as maple syrup? No, we didn't think so. This Canadian play on sweet and salty caramel corn is sweet, salty and sure to stick to your teeth (in only the best way possible).

What you'll need: 1 tablespoon of coconut oil + ¼ cup of maple syrup + ¼ teaspoon of baking soda + ½ teaspoon of salt. Boil coconut oil and maple syrup for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add baking soda. Stir and pour on top of popcorn. Mix with spoons and spread the popcorn on parchment paper until cool. Sprinkle with salt.

    Matcha and Sea Salt Popcorn

We've used matcha in quite a few recipe although we confess, we've actually never had it in tea form. Matcha popcorn however is sweet, earthy and slightly bitter but paired with salt is sharp, nutty and still lightly bitter but a lovely combination of deliciousness.

What you'll need: 1 teaspoons matcha tea powder + a sprinkle of sea salt. Once you've popped your corn, sprinkle the matcha and salt into a container or bowl with a lid, add your popcorn. Shake, shake, shake.

    Parmesan, Garlic and Rosemary Popcorn

It's amazing to think that these ingredients can be found in gourmet dishes around the world and yet we've paired it with something as simple as popped corn. The combination of these elegant flavours transforms this cinema classic into a fine dining snack. Its exquisite, thoughtful and full of flavour and depth sure to outshine even Ryan Gosling himself.

What you'll need: a sprig of rosemary + 1 clove of garlic + 2 tablespoons of fresh parmesan + 2 tablespoons of butter. Once you've popped your corn, melt the butter with the rosemary sprig and garlic in on medium-low heat in a saucepan. Pour overtop and grate fresh parmesan atop with salt to taste.
