Let’s be honest, the best part of a Big Mac is the Big Mac sauce or “secret sauce.” In our opinion, when it comes to condiments the McDonald’s Big Mac Sauce is king, and our Homemade Big Mac Sauce Recipe is a combination of all the toppings and condiments you love that's served on this classic burger.

Mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions, paprika, and garlic powder, when combined, make for a creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet condiment. While ours is different than the original McDonald's version our secret (sauce) is out – we're sharing our quick and easy version guaranteed to be on repeat.

Serve our Homemade Big Mac Sauce Recipe (secret sauce) on a Homemade Big Mac, on Nachos like the recipe from our cookbook, Eat With Us, dipped with our Crispy Oven Baked Fries, or even on pizza – yes, Big Mac Pizza. But honestly, this sauce is so delicious and versatile, that you can put this Homemade Big Mac Sauce Recipe on anything.

    Ingredient List

ingredients for homemade big mac sauce labelled with text graphics.
    • Mayonnaise:  The base and main component of mac sauce; use your favorite real mayonnaise brand or homemade if you have it on hand.
    • Dill pickle: We love fermented dill pickles but any dill pickle works well.
    • Onion: White onion or Spanish onions provide the best flavor for a mac sauce.
    • Yellow mustard: Gives a tang you can only get from yellow mustard.
    • White wine vinegar: We often use pickle brine instead of white wine vinegar. White vinegar will also work.
    • Ketchup: Just a bit for color and flavor.
    • Paprika: Gives a slight spice to mimic the real Big Mac sauce.
    • Garlic powder: A little goes a long way.
    • Salt and pepper: Season everything, always.

Find the complete recipe with measurements below.

    Substitutions and Additions

    • Pickle Juice: Substitute the pickle juice for white wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or white vinegar.
    • Spicy: Add a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce to the sauce.

I seriously put this stuff on everything! It's so simple to make and I usually have most ingredients in my fridge. Plus, it has a lot less of the not-so-good stuff than the traditional version.5 stars
